The Honda XL series began in 1974 with the XL100 and XL250, establishing Honda's trail and enduro motorcycle range that combined on-road capability with genuine off-road ability for dual-sport riding before that term was widely used. The XL range expanded through the XL125, XL185S, XL200, XL250S, XL250R, XL350R, XL500S, XL500R, XL600R and XL600LM variants — with the later XL600V Transalp and XL650V Transalp extending the lineage into adventure touring. The XL designation appeared on tank panels, side covers and shrouds across all these models, with the Honda XL graphic one of the most commonly requested tank panel replacements in the vintage Honda enduro restoration community, particularly for the XL125, XL185S and XL250R which remain popular classic trail bike restoration projects.
