The Monks were a genre-defying American band formed in Germany in the mid-1960s, blending raw garage rock with avant-garde provocation decades before punk had a name. Their confrontational performances, shaved heads, nooses as neckties, and debut album Black Monk Time (1966) made them one of the most radical acts of their era.
Rediscovered by successive generations of punk, noise rock and garage revival fans, The Monks influenced everyone from the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion to The White Stripes. Their minimalist, aggressive sound and visual iconography remain a badge of honour for underground music devotees.
Fits perfectly on guitar cases, instrument amps, laptops, record crates, skateboards, water bottles and bedroom walls.
