Deltabox is Yamaha's proprietary name for the twin-spar die-cast aluminium frame architecture that first appeared on the YZF750SP and became the foundation of every YZF-R series production sportbike from the mid-1990s onwards. The Deltabox frame uses two large-section aluminium spars running from the steering head to the swingarm pivot, giving exceptional torsional rigidity at very low weight — a design philosophy borrowed directly from Yamaha's factory MotoGP and superbike competition machinery. The Deltabox name appears on the frame castings of the YZF-R1, YZF-R6, YZF-R3, YZF-R125 and related models, and has become a byword for Yamaha sportbike technology.
